Venkatesh Thiruganasambandamoorthy

Dr. Venkatesh Thiruganasambandamoorthy (VENK) is a Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine and School of Epidemiology at the University of Ottawa, a Senior Scientist at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, and a Staff Emergency Physician at The Ottawa Hospital. His research focus is cardiac emergencies, particularly syncope, chest pain, and the role of artificial intelligence in the emergency department. He is internationally recognized for his research on emergency department syncope. He is a co-author of several national and international guidelines and consensus/position statements for syncope. He led the development of the risk tool, the Canadian Syncope Risk Score, which is now being used worldwide. He is the recipient of several peer-reviewed grants (>7 million as PI and >47 million overall) from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada (HSFC), and the National Institutes of Health (NIH). He has approximately 140 publications and has mentored 52 students at various levels. Venk is also the recipient of several prestigious awards: Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) Mid-Career Lecturer Award in Emergency Medicine, Physicians Services Incorporated Foundation (PSI) mid-career and KT salary awards, University of Ottawa Faculty of Medicine Exceptional Leadership and Publication of the Year Awards, Cardiac Arrhythmia Network of Canada’s (CANet) Mentorship Award, 2017 & 2022 Ontario Innovation Awards, Canadian Association of Emergency Physicians (CAEP) Excellence in EM Scholarship and CAEP Researcher of the Year awards.
