Jon Mark Hirshon

Dr. Hirshon is a Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine and in the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He serves as the track leader for the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) Clinical/Public Health Training Track of the Center for Advance Research Training and Innovation (CARTI), Chairman of the University of Maryland, Baltimore Institutional Review Board as well the Chief of the Emergency Department at the Baltimore VA Medical Center. As a federally funded researcher and teacher, his specific areas of interest relate to improving access to high quality acute care globally as well as improving healthcare operations with a specific focus on emergency department operations. As part of his international work, through a National Institutes of Health Fogarty International Center grant, Dr Hirshon and his teams trained over 1350 physicians from Egypt and multiple other countries in the Middle East in emergency care related topics, particularly injury research methodology, but also the clinical care of trauma patients and disaster preparedness and response.
