Dr. Cem Oktay graduated from Hacettepe University School of Medicine in 1992. He completed his medical specialty training at Dokuz Eylül University Faculty of Medicine in 1999 and became an Emergency Medicine Specialist. He has been working as a faculty member in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Akdeniz University Faculty of Medicine and working at the Akdeniz University Hospital since 1999.
He became a member of the Emergency Medicine Association of Türkiye (EMAT) in 1995 and served as the President of the Board of Directors for 2 terms between 2003 and 2007. He received the title of EMAT Academy Membership (FEMAT) in 2013. In addition to his position as the President of the EMAT Board of Directors, he served as a Member of the Board of Directors and as the Chairman of EMAT Committees and Special Interest Groups.
He has been a member of the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) since 1996 and has been the Liaison for Türkiye in the ACEP International Emergency Medicine Ambassador Program since 2014.
He has been a member of the European Society for Emergency Medicine (EUSEM) since 2003 and has been representing Turkey in the EUSEM Council. In 2014, he became an examiner for the European Board Examination in Emergency Medicine (EBEEM). Since 2015, he has been a member of the Emergency Medicine Examination Reference Group in Europe (EMERGE) and received the title of “Fellowship of the European Board Examination for Emergency Medicine (FEBEM)” in 2018 due to his contributions to the EBEEM.
In 2015, he was awarded the “Order of IFEM”, also known as “Fellowship of IFEM (FIFEM)” by the International Emergency Medicine Federation in recognition of the contributions to the development of Emergency Medicine nationally and internationally.
He has been organizing the Emergency Medicine Board Examinations as the Chair of the Examination Committee at Turkish Board Emergency Medicine (TBEM) since 2018. He became a member of the TBEM Executive Board in 2021 and was elected as the President of the TBEM in 2024. Since 2021, he has been serving as a member of the Turkish Board of Medicine (TBM) of the Turkish Medical Association (TMA), which is an affiliate member of the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS).
